[MAC] Settings lost and missing speaker profiles

Note for macOS users: Since version 5.4.0 (Oct 18, 2022) the folder destination has been moved from ~/Library/Sonarworks to ~/Library/Application Support/Sonarworks


Missing speaker profiles from SoundID Reference

We have received reports of speaker profiles missing or deleted from the Sonarworks Projects folder without the end-user's acknowledgment. When this happens, it manifests as follows:

  • Being logged out involuntarily (mostly after an update)
  • The setup of output and presets have disappeared upon logging in
  • Speaker profiles are missing

Our Development Team implemented a fix in the 5.7.3 release. Despite this, the issue still occurs for some users and we continue to look into this.

Solutions for restoring lost speaker profiles

Note: After a successful restore, or remeasuring the setup, we recommend making a backup of the new profile in an unrelated location.

  • Time Machine file restore
  • Check if the file was shared, uploaded to cloud storage, etc.
  • Remeasure your speakers in SoundID Reference Measure


Time Machine file restore

  1. Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected to your computer.
  2. Click the Apple logo > System Preferences > Time Machine icon. The icon looks like a curving arrow pointing downward that surrounds a clock face. Clicking this will open Time Machine preferences.
  3. Check the box next to “Show Time Machine in the menu bar.” The Time Machine icon will now be in the menu bar.
  4. Click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar. This looks like a clock with an arrow pointing counterclockwise.
  5. Then select Enter Time Machine. 
  6. Find the file or folder you want to restore. You will see all your previous saves stacked on top of one another. The farther back they are, the longer it has been since that save was made. You can also see when the backup was made by looking at the timeline in the bottom-right corner. You can use the space bar to preview the file to make sure it’s the correct one.
  7. Click Restore.

If you're unable to use Time Machine to restore the data, you will have to measure your speakers one more time. We apologize for any inconvenience.


Report to support

When reaching out to us, it would be helpful to let us know the following:

  • When did the issue occur? 
    - Was it after an update?
    - Was it after the first reboot after an update?
  • Are there any Mac cleanup apps installed? 
  • Is antivirus installed and if yes, what brand? 
  • Compress the entire Sonarworks folder and send it over to us: Macintosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sonarworks (the compressed file should include the 'Logs' and 'SoundID Reference' folders).

Well done that “fix” . Yesterday I updated to 5.9.2 and now all profiles are deleted. It's not the first time so i have my backups… but annoying anyway. You should find a solution for that, it's time.
