Unable to measure distance from the Right speaker

Stuck at the Right speaker during measurements

During the Listening spot stage in the speaker measurement process (distance measurements), the Measure app will require users to measure the Left and Right channels individually.

If you're having an issue where the Left speaker has been measured correctly, however, the Right speaker is having some issues (e.g. the green progress circle competes but the measurement is ongoing), you might encounter one of these error messages:

  • "No signal detected in Front Right channel"
  • "It is taking too long to finish this step"

There are several potential causes and solutions for the issue. The steps below will provide you with recommendations on how to resolve the problem of getting stuck at the Right speaker.


How to resolve the issue

  • Stereo field/panning issue - either one of the channels bleeding into the other one (even a slight upset in the balance can cause this) or a manual plugin/routing insert (digital crossover, etc.) in the signal path. To resolve this, review your panning balance and other panning-related settings on your device/interface control software, remove any plugins and/or effects on your input channel, and fully close your DAW, third-party routing, and all other audio production software, remove any other digital signal processing in the chain. 
  • Input gain - Too much gain can cause trouble. Adjust it to a healthy input gain/output volume balance (lowering the input gain, and increasing the output volume accordingly). 
  • Sample drift - too many components in the chain (converters, monitor controllers, etc.) can cause sample drift. The problem is commonly resolved by disconnecting all the unnecessary components and only leaving the main audio interface connected for the measurement stage. 
  • Physical obstructions between the speakers - desk lamps and other objects can obstruct the signals. Moving the objects away from the speakers or slightly over to the side can improve the situation. Sometimes the screen monitor in between the speakers can have a problematic placement (adjust the placement for an improvement). In addition, the Measure app can work with alternate B and C locating signals, which can help if the default 1 kHz locating signal is a particularly problematic/resonant in your room.
  • L/R speakers are connected the other way around - sometimes the speakers can actually be connected as Right and Left instead of Left and Right. Go back to the output setup stage in Measure, and use the test signals to make sure L and R are connected correctly.
