Buyer beware. How can a company release a software update that is so buggy!?

Have been a happy Sonarworks Reference 4 user.  Recently upgraded to a Mac Studio M1 Max Ventura 13.6.4.

Upgraded to SoundID.  Calibrated my monitors.  Audio is intermittent.  At times it crackles and sounds like a broken 8 bit video game.  This has made me question the calibration accuracy in this version 5.9.1 of the software which was released on January 24 2023.

The fact that I have to now uninstall this version and install the previous 5.6.1 is a big issue.

Very disappointing and unacceptable.  Get your act together.

Hi Brando Marius, thanks for reaching out, sorry to hear you have encountered some trouble with SoundID Reference.

If there are some crackles or audio distortion present, I can recommend checking out suggestions for what to check on in this guide: Audio dropouts with the standalone app (clicks and pops)

If the issues persist, can you let us know what is the output device/audio interface you are using? Thanks!

So I went through the process of downgrading to 5.6.1 from the glitchy 5.9.1.  The main software on my mac says it is 5.6.1 (build 4).  However the license information in the plugin itself says that the plugin is version 5.9.1 (build 3).  Shouldn't the plugin version match the main software version??

Hi Brando Marius, thanks for the update!

Is it possible that you had not removed the plugin files before downgrading to the 5.6.1 version? Since in this case you would be installing an older version, the plugins will not downgrade automatically.

You can consider finding and deleting the plugin files on your device (here are the locations) and then running the 5.6.1 installer once more to install this version's plugin. However, the plugin should work normally even if the version does not match to the standalone app and SoundID Reference driver version. As long as you have the license activated, there should be no problem with using it.

I am having the same problem. It is so frustrating, the software keeps on crashing. I have to login almost every 15 minutes. I Have been a loyal user of sonar reference, but if this is not resolved. I think we have to look for another option.

Hi there - this sadly doesn't help those above - but for the new viewers:  my experience  - running soundID reference 5.9.2.2, with specific headphone calibration profile , and the virtual monitoring add on - through an M1  macbook pro (sonama 14.3.1) 16gb ram - into UAD apollo X6.

So far - no drop out audio issues.

Latency is circa 6ms with zero latency option.

BUT - once in (Enabled), and out (disabled) of virtual monitoring option - latency jumps to circa 125ms for zero latency option.

If I close the programme down and opening it again - back to circa 6ms again.

My conclusion: - SoundID reference is undercooked (again!) - It's a cheap programme and sadly behaves like one. You get what you pay for.

idodevski80 - thanks for reaching out! If you are encountering some clicks & pops, I recommend checking out suggestions for what to check on in this guide: Audio dropouts with the standalone app (clicks and pops) (it does refer to SoundID Reference, but the items included are relevant for Reference 4 as well).

John Ross - thanks for reaching out regarding this! I will open up a support request on your behalf regarding this observation with Virtual Monitoring, we'll look further into it.
