Suddenly not working?

my SiD Ref has been fine (although it has its own issues with things like loopback but thats another thing)...
Today It just stopped working.  I've restarted about 10x now, shutting down anything that would possibly interfere with sound output.  In the system preferences it's not even showing up as an output device anymore.
im on an M1 Mac running Sonoma, and have 2 Scarlett 18i20 interfaces daisy chained.. (it only outputs out of the main one typically.) It was running fine yesterday and all I did was wake up the computer but now it's been 3 Hours and I've gotten no where.  any help would be great.

unityofnoise - sorry to hear about this!

I wanted to let you know that we have released a new SoundID Reference beta version 5.9.1.2 which includes a fix for the missing driver issue (SoundID Reference not showing up as an audio device in sound settings on macOS). We would really appreciate it if you could try out this beta and let us know whether the issue is fixed on your machines.

To install the beta version, please follow the instructions available in our guide here: SoundID Reference missing from Mac sound output [MAC]: Install beta

Let me know whether an issue still persists if you have the chance to install the beta. Thanks in advance!

Hi unityofnoise and henrikofeldt, thanks for your post and comments - sorry to hear you are encountering some trouble.

If SoundID Reference is not appearing as an output device in Sound settings/Audio MIDI setup, then this is a known issue with the driver missing, see more details and workarounds here: SoundID Reference missing from Mac sound output [MAC]

It is possible that for some users the issue appears after some time, the problem can also persist after a reboot. The article linked above provides some workarounds on how to resolve the issue, or revert to a previous SoundID Reference version.

Let me know how it goes!

what sucks is that I have to restart the audio play back engine CONSTANTLY... and it doesn't matter what version.... this happened with the old software before SoundID as well.  if I start or stop some software like Discord, Logic, and even protools on my computer the SID software gets fucked up.  I have loop back running on my system in order to route everything properly and SID just decides on random days when It wants to work or not.

that article is of no help what so ever... I've been using this shit for years now and have always run into issues... seems since the SID upgrade those issues have gotten worse.  I run a full time studio and am booked for the next 14months so I really don't have time to be trouble shooting all this stuff daily.

You guys really need to work on this side of your software for a while. My selling point to friends and colleges ALWAYS goes... "well its a really rad software but its BUGGY AF so it might not be worth the $, you have to decide that."

I am presently using 5.9.2.2 on a Mac Mini M1 using Sonoma. These bouts of random failure on the standalone app are beginning to be a huge problem. I don't even try to use the plugin (either on Ableton Live 12 or FL Studio) because I am not sure when it's going to stop working while I am working on a project. This is very frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this, or reported it?

Hi smurty, thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear you are encountering some trouble with the standalone app.

Can you please provide more details on the issue you are experiencing? What is the behavior of the problem, are there any error messages appearing? This will give us more context regarding the problem. Thanks!

I am using Sound ID on a Mac Mini M1 running Sonoma 14.3.1. I am using a Shure SRH1440 wired headphones connected to an Arturia MiniFuse2. My main problem is that Sound ID will simply stop working when I (a) come back to the machine after a few hours; or (b) stop working while I am listening to some music. In some cases, I have seen the CoreAudio issue others have mentioned in threads here. But in most cases, Sound ID will simply stop working with no output. I have to “Force Quit” the application and then use the MiniFuse 2 directly for sound output. No problems there. Usually, after quitting Sound ID, if I restart it, everything works fine. On a couple of occasions, I had to reboot the system to get it to work. When I am listening to music (not working on a music creation project), I have calibration enabled and am usually set to Dolby Atmos Music.

smurty, thanks for your reply and for elaborating more on this, that gives me a better idea of what you are experiencing.

I will open up a support request on your behalf, so we can look into the scenarios your described in more detail.

We did introduce a macOS driver rework last year and various similar issues such as you have described should be resolved. Nonetheless, we will check on your case closer.
