SoundID Reference 5.9.0. release notes

0

Hi all,

On November 8, 2023, we have released a new SoundID Reference software update (v5.9.0.), here's what's included:

SoundID Reference

  • Direct calibration export available for AVID MTRX family interfaces and DAD family interfaces with SPQ DSP. Previously, the EQ parameters had to be adjusted manually. This update let's the user directly imprint the calibration in the DADman profile. Please note that a new measurement of your system will be required to use this export flow.
  • Fixed the issue of LFE channel being calibrated to 0 dB relative volume despite selecting “My LFE channel is set to +10 dB” option in SoundID Reference Measure during the calibration process. This issue was present in the SoundID Reference export flow in versions 5.7.3 and 5.8.0.
  • Merged the “AVID MTRX Studio” and “AVID MTRX with SPQ” export options into one: “AVID MTRX family with SPQ DSP”. Renamed “DAD AX32 with SPQ” to “DAD family with SPQ DSP”.
  • Fixed inconsistent logic for the Listening Spot correction panel. When the correction is disabled, users see volume and time differences between the channels. Once the correction is enabled, the relevant delay and gain values are applied, so that the difference between the channels is 0.
  • [macOS] “Restart playback engine” button activates a sudo command that restarts the CoreAudio service. This can be used in case there are any driver-related issues resulting in no audio output or no calibration applied. Please note that audio should not be running when this button is pressed. The user will be asked for their password by the operating system.
  • The Virtual Monitoring panel is made more reactive to user actions and updated license status.
  • Added onboarding tooltip regarding the Virtual Monitoring feature.
  • Minor bugfixes and UI improvements.

SoundID Reference Measure

  • Adjusted measurement flow for AVID MTRX family and DAD family interfaces with SPQ DSP. If the user intends to export the calibration directly to their interfaces, they need to check the “I have an AVID MTRX or DAD family interface with SPQ processing” in the view “Select your speaker configuration” before the measurement flow. If the checkbox is selected, the user can still use the resulting calibration profile in SoundID Reference standalone app or the plugin, but the calibration data is also loaded in the DADman profile during the export process.

SoundID Reference plugin

  • Fixed the issue of LFE channel being calibrated to 0 dB relative volume despite selecting “My LFE channel is set to +10 dB” option in SoundID Reference Measure during the calibration process. This issue was present in the SoundID Reference plugin in versions 5.7.3 and 5.8.0.
  • Updated the headphone search so that the search query carries over from the manufacturer selection screen to the model selection screen.
  • Adjusted the “Filter type” panel height.
  • Fixed inconsistent logic for the Listening Spot correction panel. When the correction is disabled, users see volume and time differences between the channels. Once the correction is enabled, the relevant delay and gain values are applied, so that the difference between the channels is 0.
  • For a multichannel calibration profile, if only the time or only the volume domain is corrected in the Listening Spot correction panel, the status of the correction is titled “Custom” instead of “Enabled” or “Disabled”.
  • Fixed an issue of misaligned elements in the License information panel.
  • Minor bugfixes and UI improvements.

NOTE! Please note that the known issue with SoundID Reference missing as an output option on macOS after version 5.7.3. update is still being investigated by our team. Update: issue is resolved in the 5.9.1 update of SoundID Reference; download here.

As one of the workarounds, we recommend using the “Restart playback engine” button which activates a sudo command that restarts the CoreAudio service and should make the SoundID Reference output available in Sound settings/Audio MIDI setup.

To do this:

  1. Pause your audio playback;
  2. Launch the SoundID Reference standalone app;
  3. Click on the ". . ." icon next to the device name in the output sidebar on the left;
  4. Click on Device settings;
  5. Click on Restart playback engine

If you encounter any issues, please let us know, so we can investigate them further.

Happy mixing!

Best regards,
Zane from Sonarworks Team

M2 MAC Ventura 13.3.1

Only the words 'left, right' from the signal test are heard and still no audio.
Only when used as a plug-in.
Do you know how many times I erased and installed the program?
Why on earth can't you solve this bug?

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are encountering this issue! Our team is still investigating this issue closer.

If restarting the playback engine does not work, I would recommend reverting to the 5.7.2 version (see instructions in the guide linked above), as this version does not have the missing driver issue present and should run normally.

Update: issue is resolved in the 5.9.1 update of SoundID Reference; download here.

I see you released this version so we can "imprint" the calibration into our Dadman software....but how?  I see no options on Dadman to import SPQ and not info on. your site how this is done.  Avid has no information in the MTRX or MTRX Studio manual and nothing on their site.  Neither does the DAD site.

Could you point us to how the Sonworks calibration is imported into Dadman?

Hi pete, thanks for your interest!

You can take a look at our support guide for the DADman profile export steps here: Exporting a calibration profile for AVID MTRX family audio interface with SPQ processing (we're also working on a support video for this process, should be available quite soon).

Thanks for that link.  I see where I was confused.  I load our current Dadman profile into the Sonarworks app when measuring, that way Sonarworks exports a new Dadman profile with my current settings along with the SPQ.  Then when I launch Dadman after calibration is done, I will load my new augmented Dadman profile with the Sonarworks calibration eq and delay baked in... instead of me manually entering each eq curve and delay.

pete - yes, the process is much more streamlined now. It is still possible to input the values manually as it was initially, but with the updated export process, it should be a more efficient option.

xp6 - sorry to hear about this. The freeze issue on macOS since update 5.7.3. for users located in China (if you are located elsewhere, let us know) has not yet been resolved. Our team is looking into a fix at the moment. I recommend following our support guide on this issue here: SoundID Reference standalone app freezes [MAC]
I will also open up a support request on your behalf, so we can link your ticket to the development task.

When I try to load the dadmam profile into SoundID measure It doesn't do anything. No error, just don't load it.

I've exported from latest Dadman, I did tried with an old version too but it didn't.

Need some help. Trying to measure a 9.1.6 with MTRX + SPQ and now I'm stuck, the only option is to go on the old fashion way.

Marco.. I had this confusion as well.  When I load the new created profile in Dadman (after calibration) Dadman would just spin saying it was loading and nothing.  I rebooted and the new profile loaded.  The part Sonarworks fails to tell you is that their calibration profile doesn't modify your current Ouput in the profile you built, it creates a new Output with their naming convention after it. I was super confused selecting my output I named (Atmos Out) and the calibration sounded like it did nothing.  I had to go into the DADman edit profile page and noticed a new output (in the Groups tab) named just like my (Atmos Out) that I created, but they added their own called (Atmos Out SW Measurement Calibrated).  Once I switched to that output in Dadman and added that button on my Mom controller, that did the trick. If you are using a Mom controller for Dadman like I am, then we are not staring at the Dadman screen looking for new outputs.  We should logically assume that since Sonarworks asked for our output name then it did the SPQ data on that output.  Take a look at your Dadman Mon section I the software and look under "Sources" and see if you have a new Source or "output" under your existing one you normally used before calibration. I then deleted my old one to not add confusion, and renamed the new SPQ output to my liking.

 I find that Sonarworks delivers instructions like they are written by the nerd coders who just assume everyone just knows things, instead of walking through every step in a logical order for users to make it easy.  Sort of like asking for help and someone says "just do this" and never says what "this" is.

I hope that helped you get up and running.  We have the exact same system so you should be able to get up and running.

Hi @Zane, I just installed the new beta and I still can't import the monitor profile from this MTRX (I'm with the latest dadman software v5.7.0.1).

Hi pete, the issue in this MTRX is I can't even import the profile into SoundID Measure.

Thanks

suporte.ppa there are numerous steps to execute during the process, most likely you've missed a step.

We have just released a step-by-step video tutorial for the MTRX/DAD export, please double-check you're executing all the steps correctly and in the right order: Exporting a SoundID Reference calibration profile for AVID MTRX and DAD family devices

Hi Kârlis,

No, I didn't miss any step. I have two MTRX one I can import the dmprof file and the other I can't.

Thanks

suporte.ppa thanks for the quick reply!

Interesting, two MTRX devices and a single DADman profile. Sounds like each would need a unique DADman profile for starters. I can see you already have a support request thread open to investigate, I'm sure we'll find a solution. We'll try to then come back to this post and share the solution with others.

Ok. I didn't said two MTRX and one single DADman profile, sorry if I've made you supposed that.

I have two MTRX and two computer, each computer use one of the MTRX.

Basically two profiles, two MTRX and two computers managing each MTRX

MTRX01 - macMIni01 - dmprofile01 = WORKS

MTRX02 - macMIni02 - dmprofile02 = don't work

Thanks I'm with the support team already if we found the solution (it could something I'm doing it wrong). Ill let you guys know.
