Hi all,

On February 21, 2024, we have released a new SoundID Reference software update (v5.9.2.), here's what's included:

SoundID Reference

  • Fixed an issue of incorrect LFE channel correction values when exporting to Dolby Atmos Renderer

SoundID Reference plugin

  • Fixed an issue of some multichannel formats not available for Avid Pro Tools

Note!
Since the 5.9.2 update, there is a known issue that some users might encounter with the plugin bypass function not working. For more details and workaround options see our guide here: Plugin bypass function not working since 5.9.2 update

If you encounter any issues after this update, please let us know, so we can investigate them further.

Happy mixing!

Best regards,

Hi Zane,

Just to note; this update does not fix the "check for updates" in the systemwide finder toolbar drop-down on macOS which has been a bug for the past 3 or 4 itterations.  You can still check from the app itself though.

Swap L/R channel function stopped working in release v5.9.2

Switch to Mono and Mute still work.

Swap L/R channel function stopped working in the standalone app.

Hi Ashley Smith, thanks for reaching out!

Could you please elaborate a bit more on the “Check for updates” behavior? Is the update notification not provided when you've clicked on the “Check for updates” option in the dropdown? I don't think we have had this reported, so I would definitely like to understand the issue a bit better and report it further.

brian.silvers, thanks for reaching out. Is the L/R channel swap not working in the plugin or the standalone app? If it is the plugin, which plugin format are you using (VST, VST3, AU, AAX)?

Thanks!

Hi Zane.

I've had this one open for a while, since September last year I believe (#151588) with Mārtinš.  Selecting the SoundID logo in the macOS Finder top-bar and selecting "Check for updates…" does nothing.  The link from that menu is seemingly broken.  I'm on an M1 Ultra and confirm with Monterey, and Sonoma OS's for ref.

Cheers,

Ash

Since the update, the bypass stopped working in Pro Tools (latest version, M1 Studio, Monterey).

IF I bypass the bounce the mix - it still goes through Sound ID! To fix that, I have to manually remove the plugin from the Master track.

I now have to check my mixes from yesterday and if I have to rebounce.

I knew I shouldn't update, something always breaks.

Ashley Smith - thanks for your reply! I will open up a new support ticket on your behalf, so we can have this re-checked on our end.

mike - thanks for reaching out, sorry to hear about this! We received a couple of other similar reports since the 5.9.2 update yesterday and we are looking into it. I will open up a support request on your behalf regarding this issue too, so we can gather additional details.

Thanks Zane, no major worries as one can check for updates from the app itself, but; noting that this has been an issue from the Finder icon menu in the top-bar a while.  More concerning for a fix is Mike's report for sure.

Should I just revert to a previous version? How can I do that?

Ashley Smith - thanks, we'll check it out! :)

mike, I see my colleague has responded to the ticket I opened with you yesterday with details on the revert option for the plugin.

In case anyone else happens upon this post and also is experiencing an issue with the bypass option not working for the SoundID Reference v5.9.2. plugin in your DAW, please send in a support ticket, so we can gather these reports: Submit a request

Thanks Zane.  Can you please post how we can revert the build too until the next update is available with the bypass fix?

Hi, after the latest update the systemwide application doesn't sound at all. Music is playing on a browser, or apple music or whatever and nothing comes out. The plugin works just fine. Tried reinstalling the whole thing but still no sound comes out of the systemwide app.

Another update that wont update.  Same issue as 5.9.1 reported on case 161764

If I disable the Windows 10 build in firewall, the download works here.

Ashley Smith - for the time being, if you're encountering an issue with the render bypass not working for the SoundID Reference plugin after the 5.9.2. update, I can recommend reverting to the 5.6.1 version as instructed in our guide here: Current software issues - how to revert back to a previous version (I will make sure to update this comment in case we provide other instructions).

andrescampo - sorry to hear about this! It sounds like you are on a Mac device. Please check our guide for a few things to check on in case of no sound is observed when the SoundID Reference app is running: [MAC] No sound / no calibration effect (especially make sure to check that SoundID Reference is not muted in the Mac Sound settings).

braken.ear - sorry to hear this issue is encountered again. It looks like my colleague was able to help with installing the previous version. If the problem does persist with running the online installer again, you might want to check your antivirus, firewall, router, and any other network settings that might be interfering with/blocking the connection. You could also try connecting to a different network, even a hotspot connection would do, to see if that makes any difference.

Hi Zane,

I'm running Protools Ultimate 2023.12.1 on a Mac Studio M1 Ventura 13.6.1

Very keen to get the 7.1.4 aax plugin to work. I know youve been working hard on this for the 5.9.2 update so thank you.

My 7.1.4 Master Bus is passing audio correctly to the speaker outputs with the channel order correct etc.

When I insert the SoundID reference Plugin into a 7.1.4 master track connected to my main speakers it still passes the audio correctly.

However the Curve assignment tab outputs the test tones from the wrong outputs from Channel 7 upwards.

I've tried it on a master bus for both a standard 7.1.4 output, and also the Internal Dolby Renderer 7.1.4 Master output with the same results.

Can you confirm that the curve and delay is applied correctly - in which case we can still use it - even though the test tones are incorrect.

thanks

Graham

Hi gwild, thanks for reaching out.

The correct calibration curves should be assigned to their respective channel, if the test tone is not coming from the expected channel, then the calibration curves applied will not be accurate. Does selecting the correct channel in the channel dropdowns while doing the curve assignment help with resolving this? Thanks!

Hello,

Until recently, Pro Tools played audio through Sound ID Reference Systemwide without issue (although the AAX plugin still fails to authenticate). Now when Pro Tools attempts to send audio via Systemwide, Pro Tools crashes and reports error ‘CPU Overload Error AAE - 6101’.

Pro Tools works perfectly when sending audio directly to my io2 audio interface.

Other audio software, such as Music works fine with Systemwide.

I have updated SoundID Reference recently, but I'm not sure whether the issue concerned was present prior to the latest update.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

System as follows,

Sound ID Reference v5.9.2

Pro Tools 2021.10.0

Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7

27" iMac, Late 2012, 3.4Ghz Quad Core Intel Core i7, 16Gb RAM, 1600MHz DDR3, NVIDIA Ge Force GTX 680MX, 2Gb.

Audio Hardware, Alesis io2, via USB interface.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul Nicholas, thanks for reaching out, sorry to hear about this!

Since you have mentioned you are on macOS Catalina, I have to note that there is a known issue of a couple of processes running high CPU when SoundID Reference version 5.7.3 or newer is installed, see more details here: [MAC] CoreAudio and SonarworksASPProxy high CPU (on macOS 10.14 & 10.15)  (it might be worth checking on your device whether you observe a similar behavior).

I will open up a support request on your behalf regarding the issue you have mentioned, so we can check it closer and understand what is causing it.

Hi Zane,

changing the channel selection in the curve assignment drop downs doesn't alter where the test tone is output.

regards

Graham

Zane - Why are you not emailing users to warn them of the Bypass fault?

0

Hi,

gwild - I will open up a support request on your behalf regarding this, so we can check on it closer.

Peter Duffy -  Sorry to hear you have encountered this issue as well, we understand the inconvenience. I have also responded to your post regarding this issue, but we want to provide some context for it here as well. This issue appears to impact a small portion of users, so we're currently addressing it publicly via our Help Center content and other solutions. There is always a list of bugs and issues present in various stages of fix development, and direct messaging to mostly unaffected users would likely cause more distress than do good.

However, of course, your input is valid, and we've forwarded your feedback to our team for further consideration regarding an email update.

For anyone else encountering the plugin bypass function not working after the 5.9.2 update, please submit a support request to help us address it faster. For immediate workarounds, we recommend checking the instructions in our support guide here: Plugin bypass function not working since 5.9.2 update

Hi,

I wanted to provide an update on the high CPU issue some users are encountering on macOS 10.14 and 10.15 versions as there were some reports mentioned in this post as well.

With the release of a new SoundID Reference update (v5.10.0) on March 26, 2024, SoundID Reference will no longer support macOS 10.14 and 10.15. If you have encountered the high CPU issue on your device, please visit our support guide for more information on OS version support drop and issue workaround options here: [MAC] CoreAudio and SonarworksASPProxy high CPU (on macOS 10.14 & 10.15)
