Macbook Pro High Impedance Headphone Amp: Much Quieter When Using SoundID Reference Output; Possible to fix the output level?

0

Hi There!

I have recently noticed that when using the headphone amp for my M1 Pro Macbook Pro, the high impedance headphone amp drives my headphones really well and they can get loud enough (and louder) than I need.

When I boot up Reference, however, this loudness is greatly reduced overall. Even if I disable headroom and even disable the correction completely, the loudness output from the Reference app as a sound output in apple is much quieter.

Is there anything that can be done to bring back the loudness from the default external headphone amp in my Mac while using Reference by me or you guys? If not, reference is not really usable for me this way.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Hi Julius Dunfoy, thanks for your post, sorry to hear there is an issue!

It sounds like you may be encountering this issue: Low volume in the SoundID Reference standalone app [MAC]. You can try adjusting the actual output device itself in Audio MIDI settings app on your Mac - PLEASE BE CAREFUL with this to avoid volume jumps when launching or quitting the SoundID Reference app.

I will also open up a support request on your behalf, so we can link your ticket to the development task we have open for this issue.
