Distortion

Hello, I am starting to lose confidence in Sound ID Reference. I have a serious distortion issue.

Windows 10 with latest updates.

I have uninstalled and re installed a couple of times, been through the measurement process 3 times and I am still getting serious distortion.

Audio is passing through Sound ID even though Sound ID is not listed as an output on the Windows Sound Management page, which is puzzling as I thought it was there, the first time I ever installed it.

Sometimes I get the blue circle of death with the "not responding" message, until it eventually shuts down.

Again, sometimes, when Sound ID is open I hear a slightly distorted, quiet, blipping noise alternating between speakers.

Sometimes the test " Left, Right" test tone distorts, sometimes it doesn`t.

I am puzzled and more than a little disappointed as it is not cheap software especially when also purchasing the Sonarworks reference microphone to go along with it.

I may just give it one more uninstall, re-install before I just give up altogether.

To be honest, at the moment, it is not software that I would recommend to anyone.

Any ideas?

Hi humbucker1, thanks for your post! Sorry to hear there is some distortion present.

It sounds like you are using the APO driver type, can you let us know if you've had the chance to try setting up your output device with the other driver types? See our guide here: Audio driver types in SoundID Reference app [WIN]

There are some additional things to try if you hear some clicks & pops, dropouts, distortion, for more details see here: Audio dropouts with the standalone app (clicks and pops)

Let us know how it goes!

Hello Zane,

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, when I try to create an ASIO output I get the message " no devices found for the selected device type ".

I have a Focusrite Clarett + 8 Pre installed and working with two different DAWs. Both of which are using ASIO. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Sound ID but it insists on imposing APO drivers and there is no alternative option.

I have to admit I am a bit stumped. I have wasted too much time already on this, I think I will have to put it aside for another day.

Cheers

Keith
