Using w Logic Pro

Another SoundID Reference question. For those of you using it in systemwide mode, is your Logic Stereo Out bus routed through it? Doesn’t seem like it in my case - I can clearly hear the correction when I play music from the web or my Apple library, but don’t hear anything happening when I’m working in Logic Pro X. I should clarify - I’m assuming that when in systemwide mode I don’t need to load it as a plug-in on my logic master bus.

This sounds the same as the ASIO situation on Windows, where your DAW's drivers override anything that other apps try to do. "Systemwide" only pertains to audio from browsers, media players, games, movies etc. but not music production, which is why they have the plugin for your DAW's Master Out channel.

However, I did find a solution that works for me. Before I get into that: it's not pretty, so I should say right away that I did see people wanting to create global audio effects on PC and being told by forum users, "Not unless you're on Mac". I assume this means there's a simpler system on Mac, but I don't know what it is. Hopefully, Google will help you.

I should explain that I have recently ditched SoundID in preference for AutoEQ curves, but the principle is the same; you need an app that will host plugins outside of your DAW, and use the plugin version inside it. For me, that's a free app called Equalizer APO which can host VSTs, convolution impulse responses containing EQ curves, or even text files containing the frequencies and Q figures required. I then route that to another free app called Voicemeeter Banana which can collect, route and mix audio. So mine goes like this:

1. Equalizer APO hosts a convolution curve for my headphones found on AutoEQ.com (you would use an insert for SoundID's plugin instead). Its Device field (which is E APO's output) goes to "Output A1 - Voicemeeter".

2. My DAW, Ableton Live, is told that its Audio Device is "Vociemeeter Virtual ASIO".

3. In Voicemeeter Banana, in the A1 dropdown just left of "HARDWARE OUT" I have the option selected for "ASIO: [my audio interface]".

Equalizer APO and Voicemeeter are set to run as startup apps. The correction is very definitely working for all audio including the DAW, as evidenced by bypassing inside E APO, and any audio exported from the DAW nulls against its source which proves that the correction is not getting baked into my recordings and audio bounces. It's not elegant, but once it's set up I don't have to think about it anymore except when I want to listen through the studio monitors (in which case I bypass my correction curve in Equalizer APO).

As I say, I think there's a simpler and neater way to do it on Mac but in the worst-case scenario, this is how it can be done.

Hi Philip Coumans, thanks for your post!

If you want to have your DAW signal routed through the SoundID Reference standalone app, then yes, SoundID Reference should be set as the output device in the DAW and the calibration will be applied. In this case, you do not need to load the plugin.
